I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
I definitely did!
I got Insanity certified on Saturday and I am
so pumped up and ready to start teaching classes.
Within the last two years, I would have never thought that I would be
stepping out of my comfort zone and doing things that I would only imagine doing.
My goal in the next two years is to be on film with some of the greats like Shaun T, Chalene Johnson and Tony Horton.
It's a big goal but sky is the limit right?
Anyway, today's post is exciting to me because it completes writing about the original and amazing four FITMAMAS
that have motivated me to do something in my own community and to stay active!
This special spotlight goes out to Lola Talanoa.
She is an amazing mother of five boys.
Yes, you read that right, FIVE boys!
She just recently had her newest addition in December and the thing that made her pregnancy stand out to me was she was still going strong in her workouts and weight lifting.
It's true when they say "you're pregnant not powerless."
Pregnancy isn't an excuse to shoot up 50 lbs with each child like I did.
This woman is a beast and definitely fit to be a mother of boys.
I have a soft spot for boy moms because I can relate.
When I asked her if she'd be willing to do a spotlight for my blog, we just clicked.
It felt like I had known her forever.
She's amazing in every sense of the word.
Here is what she has to say about her fitness journey:
"I was born and raised in Utah and after high school, I decided to move to Arizona with my older sister.
That didn't last long because I was homesick
but I later moved to Lawndale, California in May 2006 where I stayed for 6 years.
I met my one and only love, Bernard Talanoa while living in LA.
We dated for about a year and later married in October of 2007.
We welcomed our first son in March 2008.
Not too long after having our first child, I got pregnant with our second son who was born in June 2009.
We were so excited to be parents, we really didn't waste much time popping babies out!
Once our second son was born, much to our surprise, we found out we were expecting twins.
We welcomed them July 2010.
Being married at a young age definitely taught me how to become more patient with others especially my husband and kids.
Growing up I was very active.
I loved to play sports, run around with my boy cousins and being a tomboy.
I considered myself an athletic person but by the time I got out of high school, I didn't really keep up with playing sports so you can say I didn't care too much to stay fit or eat healthy.
It wasn't until after I had my twins when I realized I needed to make a change and get myself back in shape.
In December 2010, I made the decision to move back to Utah and has been the best choice for my family.
I didn't fully commit to making the changes I needed to until February of 2013.
I was very uncomfortable with all the weight that I had gained to the point where I did not want to take pictures.
I made a vow to never look back and push forward.
I decided to hit up my sister in-law Tina who has been the greatest support since day one.
We started off with Insanity,
After about a week, we decided to try different things and incorporate weights.
We didn't have babysitters so we worked out in her backyard and to make things work, we used things that she had around the house.
From there it grew into posting what we were doing on IG.
Our little group went from Tina and me in her backyard, from Ashley coming to join us and then I thought to invite one of my long time friends, Anatava which completes our original Fitmamas.
From there we became "the workout crew."
We got creative and started thinking of other things we could do to get a good workout and that's when we decided to run hill sprints.
We realized we needed to invite more women who wanted to come out and get a good workout in with us so Ashley came up with the idea to have a birthday challenge.
It grew from there and I didn't really think we would be such an impact on mothers and women.
I wasn't really prepared but I told the girls there's no turning back now, we were in it together.
Thanks to Ashley, she put our IG together, made a Facebook page and a blog and we just went with the flow.
It has been the best experience and I have definitely changed for the better.
In April, I found out I was pregnant with baby #5 and I told myself if I stop working out now, I won't have the urge to get back into it after having baby.
My Doctor cleared my workouts and I was very cautious of what I was doing so I wouldn't hurt the baby. I stayed active and felt energized throughout the day.
This journey has been an amazing one.
My number one support is my husband and I could not have done it without him.
He has supported me from day one and has stuck by my side through it all.
We're on this fitness train together and it's been great for both of us.
My goals are to stay on track with my health and the health of my family.
To be an example and to never say I can't.
I can only imagine what lies ahead for FITMAMAS!"
Thank you Lola for giving me this opportunity to spotlight you and all your awesomeness!!
I am truly blessed to have come across you, Tina, Ashley and Anatava.
You all have motivated me to do MORE around me, help and serve others and to keep pushing no matter what comes my way.
Keep up the great work and thank you for being such an amazing example to busy mothers and women.
We all have the same 24 hours in a day.
We all live crazy and busy lives but we make time for the things that we feel are important.
I hope you are continuing to stop making excuses and start DOING!
You never know who is watching you so continue to be your best self!
Happy Monday all!!
